In an August 2018 Transportation section special edition, USA Today printed an article titled, “Shipping industry sees automation as inevitable next step in evolution.” The piece includes interviews with Sea Machines’ CEO Michael Johnson, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD), the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and others to share insight about the coming future digitization of the commercial marine industry. In it, Johnson says:

“Technology,’will enable maritime industries to take back cargo from the crowded roads, increase transit speeds to compete with air travel, and open the doors to vast ocean farms of food and energy.'”
