Blog Capt. Lauren Lamm Named WISTA USA New England Chapter Co-President
May 17, 2021
Sea Machines congratulates its Captain Lauren Lamm, vessel test lead, for being named co-president of the Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA) USA’s New England chapter. In this new voluntary position, Lamm and her fellow co-president, Lauren Beagen will oversee the chapter, plan and coordinate events, and recruit new members. A WISTA member since 2013, Lamm helped to found the local chapter to connect women in regional leadership positions within the maritime industry. Today, the chapter boasts 31 members (and growing!), and is unique in that it connects members across state lines.
“It is nice to be able to see different areas and learn about our members’ lives and careers. It is especially nice with virtual meetings to see members who we don’t normally see at in-person group functions,” she said.
Lamm, who holds a master unlimited tonnage/oceans license, worked as a mate for Otto Candies until 2018, when she joined Sea Machines in her current position. She says the leadership position is helping her now in her career because, “Knowing people in different industries and being able to ask questions about their experiences in invaluable. I think my Sea Machines experience helps WISTA just as much as my WISTA experience helps Sea Machines. My leadership skills have improved, and I am constantly working on them for the benefit of both WISTA and Sea Machines.”
